Thread Veins

The tiny veins in the skin are usually invisible, but for some, these veins expand and show through the skin and are known as thread veins, but less commonly referred to as ‘spider veins’ or ‘capillary veins’.

There are a number of causes, chief among which is sustained over-exposure to sunlight. Pregnancy and oestrogen treatments, people who suffer from rosacea, as well as the over-use of steroid creams can also cause thread veins, and they are particularly prevalent after mid-life, when the skin becomes thinner and loses some of it’s tightening collagen fibres.

Cosmetically unsightly, thread veins are essentially small blood vessels near the surface of the skin which manifest themselves as tiny, twisted purple lines on the surface of the skin, and it’s been estimated that almost 15 million people - 55% of the UK’s adult population – suffer this condition.

Treatments

We use a treatment known as Veinwave/V-beauty, which has been heralded by a number of industry experts as the safest and most reliable way to treat thread veins. As always, prior to treatment commencing, we will have a consultation with you where we will discuss exactly what is required and how long it will take.

Traditionally, the removal of thread veins has been carried out using two methods. Lasers and electrolysis. which can be painful, offer limited success and can result in some scarring and pigmentation around the treated area, and sun exposure needs to be avoided, for 4 weeks prior and post treatment.

Veinwave was developed in France and uses an ultra-fine insulated needle which allows for pinpoint accuracy during treatment while protecting the skin and surrounding tissue. The intense heat is passed down through the needle to each individual vein and causes the wall of the vein and the blood within it to break up or coagulate – this process is known as thermo-coagulation.

The treatment is ‘walk-in, walk-out’ and most thread veins can be treated. It’s relatively painless, and most clients describe the feeling of contact on the skin as a ‘small pin prick’. Post treatment, one can expect small red marks that become micro-crusts or tiny scratches, and they will then disappear completely after two or three days.
