This November marks 10 years of working at beauty avenue and 10 years of a friendship with my boss Vicki. I'm sure we have had our ups and downs (way more ups) but to still be in the same place 10 years later says a lot about the salon, the clients and Vicki.
I will always remember my actual interview! It was in the 31st October 2006. My birthday! The interview was set for 7.30 in the evening and I was going straight out for dinner with my now husband Marc. I was dressed up to the eyes, not how I would want to look for an interview. But straight from the word go Vicki was cool about it and knew I was off out after. The position I was being interviewed for was a Saturday girl job which I had been been recommended from my last job. I was going to be starting off doing every other Saturday along with another girl. That changed on my 1st day. Lucky for me the old Saturday girl kept letting them down and I swiftly took the spot. Gees was I pleased! I instantly got on with the girls and with Vicki (I think she felt the same!!!) I loved being busy cleaning, answering the phone, helping the girls get their rooms ready, taking payments but most of all I loved greeting our wonderful clients and have a good old chat with them all. I think I slotted into the team really well and felt that it's where I belonged.
My roll slowly started to change, I was already trained in spray tanning and every now and then would help out with them when everyone was busy. Then the day that changed everything! I think (not completely certain) it was about 6 months after I started one of the therapists asked Vicki if I could do a French varnish on a client she had booked in as she thought I was better at painting than her. Vicki being Vicki was quite happy for me to do it but I had to get her to come and check at the end! (Always the perfectionist of course)
Vicki seemed quite pleased with the job and the client seemed very happy with the final look. At the end of the day Vicki came to me and asked if I had thought about becoming a nail technician as she thought my paint was brilliant. So there came my next step in my beauty avenue journey and I qualified in nails and became beauty avenues nail technician full time and slowly I built up a brilliant clientele and started to get asked if I could do more things.
I started to really love what I was doing and my confidence in myself grew that after speaking to Vicki and her encouraging me I signed up to my NVQ level 2 beauty therapy course in Harlow college! I loved every minute of it and before long I was qualified and already doing treatments at work as I went along. Then came Dermalogica training! Omg I fell in love with these products! And still am today! Not long after finishing course Vicki asked A question I never would have expected, she asked me to be salon manageress, I was over the moon! The trust she must of had in me and the confidence she must have had in me was incredible. I was proud of myself and completely over joyed that the trust from Vicki was there. With the continued support from everyone I went straight onto my
NVQ level 3 beauty therapy course and again passed with flying colours.
I started to find a passion for beauty therapy and continue to do so! I am extremely lucky to be able to say that 10 years down the line I am still here and going strong. My clients are not clients any more and I see each and everyone of you wonderful people as friend because you make my job so easy. How many people can say that? How many people can say they can't wait to come to work? How many people can say the love their job? Well I can and that is all down to clients, my girls I work with each and everyday and especially to a boss that I can say is a true friend and a pleasure to spend my days with, I don't see this as just a work place I see them as my family.
I look forward to the next 10 years! I want to thank each and every client for your continued support, trust, care and dedication to me over these last 10 years and know that you will always get the best of me in return! And Vicki thank you for putting up with me for 10 years there is no where in this world I would rather be than by your side keeping beauty avenue alive and amazing as it has always been!
Thank you for seeing something in my Vicki without that I don't think I would have found by calling in life!
